You know it’s WAY past time for your dog’s nail trim when they look like this!
When dogs’ nails grow too long they tend to rest their weight further back on their paws to compensate for the difficulty in walking. This puts tension and strain on other muscles and joints which can cause joint pain and discomfort for your dog. In some cases it can cause arthritis and other joint problems.
It’s important to get your dog comfortable with having his/her paws handled. Should your dog get a cut or other injury on a paw, you don’t want to have to struggle with your dog to be able to clean and check it. What if someone was to accidentally bump your dog’s paw? Would they get nipped?
With training your dog can learn to relax about his/her paws. Some dogs learn fast. Others stay nervous about it for much longer.
I will work with your dog to help him/her to relax and have nail trimming be a positive experience.
